The Sweetwater Millrace

The Sweetwater Millrace, originally uploaded by frank.mara.

The millrace is a channel that runs parallel to the Sweetwater Creek. It is several hundred yards long and was built with slave labor sometime before the Civil War. The millrace redirected water from the creek to the water wheel that powered the textile manufacturing machines of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company. I particularly like this photo because it accurately captures the gray, green and brown color pallet of a Georgia winter. You can access my complete set of Sweetwater Creek photos here. Shot with a tripod-mounted Nikon N80 (35mm), a Nikon 28-70 f3.5D lens, a polarizing filter and Fuji Superia Reala 100 film.
